Penn St. rises to No. 2 in AP poll

Penn State climbed to No. 2 in the Associated Press poll behind unanimous No. 1 Alabama after a wild weekend of upsets gave the top 25 a major makeover.

A season-high seven ranked teams, including four in the top 10, lost to unranked teams.

Penn State, which was idle, took advantage. The Nittany Lions moved up a spot, 15 points ahead of No. 3 Georgia. Penn State has its best ranking since Oct. 31, 1999, when it was No. 2.

Alabama, which has been No. 1 since the preseason, received all 61 first-place votes for the first time this season.

Texas Christian is No. 4, Wisconsin is No. 5 and Ohio State is No. 6.

Clemson dropped five spots to No. 7. Miami, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State round out the top 10.

Nebraska hires AD

Nebraska announced the hiring of Washington State athletic director Bill Moos to head its sports program.

Moos replaces Shawn Eichorst, who was fired after the Cornhusker­s lost to Northern Illinois on Sept. 16 at home.

Moos, 66, has been the AD at Washington State since 2010.

He agreed to a five-year contract at Nebraska with a base annual salary of $1 million, plus incentives.

Late Saturday

Manny Wilkins passed for 245 yards and Arizona State (3-3, 2-1 Pac-12) stunned then-No. 5 Washington 13-7. It was the seventh consecutiv­e loss for the Huskies (6-1, 3-1) at Tempe, Ariz . ... Bryce Love had 147 yards in 17 carries, Keller Chryst threw three touchdown passes and Stanford (5-2, 4-1) rolled to a 49-7 victory over Oregon (4-3, 1-3) at Palo Alto.
