Woods avoids jail in reckless driving plea

Tiger Woods pleaded guilty to reckless driving in a deal that will keep him out of jail as long as he stays out of trouble, resolving charges from an arrest last spring in which he was found passed out in his Mercedes-Benz on the side of the road with prescripti­on drugs and marijuana in his system.

Woods has said he had been self-medicating to relieve the pain from his fourth back surgery and insomnia. He has not competed since February because of his back injury and is not expected to return this year. His last win was in 2013.

Chinese billionair­e Joseph Tsai has agreed to purchase a 49% stake in the Brooklyn Nets from Mikhail Prokhorov, with the option to become controllin­g owner in four years, according to multiple reports. The franchise is being valued at $2.3 billion under terms of the agreement. The deal is for the franchise only and not Barclays Center . ... The Chicago Bulls exercised their fourth-year option on Bobby Portis after the forward was suspended eight games for injuring teammate Nikola Mirotic during a fight at practice. The Bulls also picked up third-year options on guards Kris Dunn and Denzel Valentine and fourth-year options on guards Jerian Grant and Cameron Payne.
