-

Rawle Alkins made a goahead layup with 38 seconds remaining and No. 14 Arizona held on for a 73-71 victory over Stanford on Saturday at Palo Alto to take sole possession of first place in the Pac-12 Conference.

Allonzo Trier, who led the Wildcats (16-4, 6-1 Pac-12) with 21 points, made three free throws in the final 18 seconds.

Arizona trailed by 11 points midway through the second half before rallying to beat the Cardinal (11-9, 5-2) for the 16th consecutive time.

Reid Travis had 20 points for Stanford, which was on a five-game winning streak.

“You saw some great spurts tonight, but giving up that 11-point lead is obviously tough,” Travis said. “There’s a lot of learning to do.”

The game was tied 46-46 when Stanford went on an 11-0 run that included a technical foul on Arizona coach Sean Miller. The Wildcats responded with an 11-point run, tying the score on a three-point basket by Trier with 6:20 to play.

“I give our guys credit, they dug deep. It didn’t look good at that moment, but our effort continued to be very good or maybe increase,” Miller said of Stanford’s 11-point run. “Winning on the road is hard.”

No. 16 Arizona State 81, at California 73: Tra Holder and Remy Martin scored 13 points apiece, and the Sun Devils (15-4, 3-4) overcame a slow start and won by more than three points for the first time in conference play. The Sun Devils scored only two points in the opening 51⁄2 minutes, missing seven of their first eight shots. They led by as many as 16 points late in the first half and then regained control late after the Golden Bears (7-13, 1-6) got within 65-60 with just under six minutes left.

Marcus Lee led Cal with 23 points and Darius McNeil scored 16.

Washington 72, at Colorado 62: Jaylen Nowell scored 19 points and the Huskies (14-6, 4-3) overcame a four-for-20 shooting performance to start the game. Washington closed the first half on a 27-9 run to take a 3627 lead.

The Buffaloes (12-8, 4-4) trimmed a 13-point deficit to seven points nine times in the second half but got no closer.
