When Basques moved West, they brought their cuisine, which will be featured at the Jan. 29-Feb. 3 National Cowboy Poetry Gathering. Basque chefs are offering cooking classes (sold out, but sample dishes at local restaurant­s), and talks and films will explore Basque life now and in the 19th century. The Flower Fields usually draw visitors for the colorful giant ranunculus blooms. Now local chefs and cocktail makers are bringing more to the table with Petal to Plate events. Expect to find floral hints in dishes and cocktails at local restaurant­s April 5-15. Dubois, Wyo.

You can ski or snowmobile five miles into a remote national forest to find a hot gourmet lunch at rustic Brooks Lake Lodge & Spa. The meals are open to guests and visitors in winter and offer such treats as elk sloppy Joes and deep-fried chocolate chip cookie dough. The lodge is near Dubois. Info: brookslake.com

Concord, Mass.

After you’ve toured the Revolution­ary War sites, stop by the Northeaste­rn Correction­al Center’s Fife & Drum, which offers lunches made by prisoners. The price is $3.21 for a three-course meal of soup, entree and dessert. Menu items may include “cranberry-andapple-stuffed chicken breasts; sautéed zucchini; and a heaping mound of rice,” a Boston Globe article reports.
