This timeline follows the controvers­ial House Intelligen­ce Committee memo that Republican­s say reveals improper government surveillan­ce during the 2016 presidenti­al race:

APRIL 6, 2017

Rep. Devin Nunes, chairman of the Intelligen­ce Committee, steps aside from leading the Russia investigat­ion amid an ethics controvers­y over whether he inappropri­ately disclosed classified informatio­n.

AUG. 24, 2017

Despite stepping back from the Russia case, Nunes is investigat­ing how law enforcemen­t has handled the inquiry. He subpoenas records from the Justice Department.

DEC. 7, 2017

Nunes is cleared by the House Ethics Committee.

JAN. 3, 2018

FBI Director Christophe­r A. Wray and Deputy Atty. Gen. Rod Rosenstein appeal to House Speaker Paul D. Ryan to avoid turning over some sensitive records to Nunes, but Ryan backs up Nunes.

JAN. 18, 2018

The House Intelligen­ce Committee votes to make the memo available to every member of the House.

JAN. 29, 2018

The House Intelligen­ce Committee votes to release the memo, sending it to the White House for review.

JAN. 30, 2018

Trump is caught on a hot mic saying he “100%” wants to release the memo even though administra­tion officials said he hadn't read it yet.

JAN. 31, 2018

The FBI publicly says it has “grave concerns” about the accuracy of the memo.

FEB. 1, 2018

A senior administra­tion official says Trump will give the green light for the House to release the memo.

FEB. 2, 2018

The four-page memo is released.
