Giles, Hechavarri­a win arbitratio­n cases

Houston Astros closer Ken Giles and Tampa Bay Rays shortstop Adeiny Hechavarri­a won their salary arbitratio­n cases, and Toronto Blue Jays closer Roberto Osuna lost.

Giles got a raise from $555,100 to $4.6 million — $400,000 more than Houston's offer. He was 1-3 with a 2.30 earned-run average and 34 saves last season.

Hechavarri­a, who was paid $4.35 million last year, was awarded $5.9 million, instead of the $5.35 million offered by the Rays. He hit a combined .261 with eight homers and 30 runs batted in.

Osuna will be paid $5.3 million after asking for $5.8 million. He was paid $552,400 last year when he was 3-4 with a 3.38 ERA and 39 saves, and led the majors with 10 blown save opportunit­ies.

Washington Capitals forward T.J. Oshie has been fined $5,000 for cross-checking Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Kris Letang in the neck Friday night.

The scuffle along the boards occurred at 19 minutes 40 seconds of the second period in the Penguins’ 7-4 victory.

Lindsey Vonn of the U.S. defeated Italian Sofia Goggia by two hundredths of a second in a women’s World Cup downhill race at Garmisch-Partenkirc­hen, Germany, her 80th victory.

Vonn trailed Goggia by 0.08 at the last split time but overcame the deficit in the final section. Cornelia Huetter of Austria was third, 0.13 behind.

Vonn and Goggia, the only racers with more than one downhill win this season, are the favorites to win gold at the Olympic downhill.
