GET INTO HOT WATER WITH TRIP TO GLEN IVY

- — Catharine Hamm

Why: If you’re intimidated by the word “spa,” Glen Ivy in Corona is the place for you. It feels accessible, not exclusive, meaning you can sit back and relax.

What: There are 19 pools, including mineral pools. You start by getting a locker for your clothes and putting on your swim suit in a well-appointed area that includes changing rooms, showers, big, lighted mirrors and hairdryers. My new favorite features are the hot-and-cold plunge pools. You can find spa treatments (extra charge; appointments advisable). Save Club Mud for last. You paint yourself (and your hair) with California red clay, then go bake in the sun.

Info: Glen Ivy Hot Springs, 25000 Glen Ivy Road, Corona; (888) 453-6489, www .glenivy.com. $49 Mondays-Fridays; $68 Saturdays, Sundays and holidays. 9 a.m.-5 p.m. through Feb. 28; open an hour later from March through May.
