Hosmer and Padres reportedly have a deal

-

Free-agent first baseman Eric Hosmer and the San Diego Padres have agreed to a deal, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported Saturday night.

According to Jon Morosi of MLB.com, Hosmer received an eight-year deal with an opt-out clause after the fifth season.

This will push first baseman Wil Myers to the outfield.

Hosmer, 28, hit .318 with a .385 on-base percentage in 2017, both career highs. He hit 25 home runs for the second season in a row.

He has a career batting average of .284, career onbase percentage of .342 and career slugging percentage of .439. He has won four Gold Gloves in his seven seasons and was an All-Star in 2016. The Minnesota Twins acquired right-hander

Jake Odorizzi from the Tampa Bay Rays for minor league infielder Jermaine Palacios.

Odorizzi was 10-8 with a 4.14 earned-run average in 28 starts last season.

Palacios, 21, has a .290 average over four minor league seasons. The Cleveland Indians signed free agent Rajai

Davis to a minor league contract. Davis, 37, led the American League with 43 stolen bases for Cleveland in 2016. In Game 7 of the World Series, he hit a tying, two-run home run with two outs in the eighth inning against Aroldis Chapman before the Indians lost to the Chicago Cubs in the 10th inning.

In 10 major league seasons, he has batted .264 with 394 steals.
