USC receiver will not face felony charges, D.A. office says

USC receiver Joseph Lewis will not face felony charges from the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office following his arrest Feb. 12 on suspicion of domestic violence, district attorney spokesman Greg Risling said.

Lewis’ case has been referred to the Los Angeles city attorney’s office. He could be charged with a misdemeano­r.

Lewis remains suspended from team activities, a USC representa­tive said.

The Arizona Board of Regents has scheduled a special meeting Thursday to get legal advice and discuss the men’s basketball program at the University of Arizona and the contract of coach Sean Miller. Miller has not been with the team since Saturday, when ESPN reported that federal investigat­ors had recorded the coach in a wiretap talking about a $100,000 payout involving star freshman Deandre Ayton . ... The University of Washington said it has no knowledge of claims made by former football and basketball player Nate Robinson of being offered money by a booster to return to playing football . ... The Mountain West Conference has been in discussion­s with No. 7 Gonzaga about leaving the West Coast Conference and joining the league, possibly by next season.

Giancarlo Stanton and Aaron Judge played together for the first time with the New York Yankees. In the team’s 9-6 exhibition loss to the Detroit Tigers, Stanton doubled, singled and scored on a home run by Gary Sanchez. Judge went 0 for 2 as the designated hitter in his first game since shoulder surgery in November.

Houston Astros first baseman Yuli Gurriel had surgery on his left hand and is expected to be sidelined for the start of the season. When Gurriel returns, he’ll serve a five-game suspension for an inappropri­ate gesture during the World Series . ... Lucas Duda and the Royals agreed to a one-year contract, giving Kansas City a replacemen­t for Eric Hosmer at first base.

The Carolina Panthers released running back Jonathan Stewart, the franchise’s career rushing leader . ... Running back Matt Forte announced that he is retiring from the NFL after 10 seasons . ... The Indianapol­is Colts told Frank Gore they do not intend to re-sign him . ... Pittsburgh Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert confirmed that inside linebacker Ryan Shazier will not play in 2018 because of his spinal cord injury.

Rafael Nadal’s comeback from a hip injury is on hold after the second-ranked Spaniard pulled out of the Mexican Open, saying he needs more time to recover . ... Top-seeded Sloane Stephens rallied to beat Dutch qualifier Arantxa Rus 5-7, 7-6 (6), 6-0 to reach the Mexican Open quarterfin­als.

The life of Keith Jackson will be celebrated at the Rose Bowl on April 15, with several of the late college football announcer’s former broadcasti­ng colleagues taking part. The event is open to the public.
