Shiffrin wins World Cup title

Mikaela Shiffrin won her second straight overall World Cup title, five races before the season’s end.

Shiffrin won the Olympic gold medal in the giant slalom last month, and it was in Friday’s giant slalom in Germany that the 23-year-old from Colorado clinched the overall World Cup title by finishing third. Ragnhild Mowinckel of Norway, the Olympic silver medalist, won the race.

Shiffrin is the second American female skier to win multiple overall titles. Lindsey Vonn won the sport’s most coveted prize four times.

Figure skating coach Richard Callaghan, who once trained Olympic champion Tara Lipinski, has been suspended pending an investigat­ion into allegation­s of sexual misconduct first made against him nearly 20 years ago. Callaghan denied the allegation­s and on Friday, the 72-year-old told ABC News: “That’s 19 or 20 years ago. I have nothing to say.”

The Buffalo Sabres confirmed that forward Kyle Okposo suffered a concussion Thursday and will be out indefinite­ly . ... Dallas Stars center Martin Hanzal is set for season-ending back surgery.
