Holiday headed to the NBA

Point guard Aaron Holiday announces he’s forgoing his final season at UCLA to enter the draft.

What seemed like a foregone conclusion became official Monday night when UCLA’s Aaron Holiday announced that he would declare for the NBA draft after one of the finest seasons by a Bruins point guard.

Holiday affirmed his intentions in a tweet in which he thanked his family, UCLA coaches and fans for supporting him. The junior will forgo his final season of college eligibilit­y after becoming the Pac-12 Conference’s leading scorer, averaging 20.3 points per game, to go with 5.8 assists per game.

The 6-foot-1 Holiday is projected as a late firstround pick in some mock drafts and an early secondroun­d pick in others. — Ben Bolch More draft entrants

Missouri’s 6-foot-10 freshman forward Michael Porter Jr. said he is declaring for the draft. He played only three games because of a back injury . ... Ohio State’s 6-7 forward Keita BatesDiop announced he is headed to the NBA. The Big Ten player of the year, BatesDiop averaged 19.8 points and 8.7 rebounds . ... Washington State forward Robert Franks said he intends to declare for the draft. The 6-7 junior averaged 17.4 points per game.

Women’s honors

South Carolina senior center A’ja Wilson became the seventh women’s player to earn Associated Press AllAmerica team honors three times. Wilson averaged 22.6 points and 11.8 rebounds in the regular season. Connecticu­t forward Katie Lou Samuelson, Oregon guard Sabrina Ionescu, Louisville guard Asia Durr and Mississipp­i State guard Victoria Vivians round out the team.

Hirings, f irings

Louisville hired Vince Tyra as athletic director, removing the interim tag from his title. Tyra can proceed with his first major move — hiring a men’s basketball coach. He was given the job temporaril­y after Tom Jurich was fired Oct. 18 . ... Tubby Smith has agreed to be the men’s coach at High Point, a person familiar with the situation who spoke on condition of anonymity told the Associated Press.
