Champions’ Bynum leads at Sherwood

Tom Byrum birdied five of the last seven holes for a six-under 66 and the first-round lead in the PGA Tour Champions’ Invesco QQQ Championsh­ip at Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks.

Byrum’s winless on the tour after winning once on the PGA Tour. Scott Parel was a stroke back and Bernhard Langer, the defending tournament champion and the points leader, and Miguel Angel Jimenez, second in the points race, are two back. The top 36 finishers advance to the Charles Schwab Cup Championsh­ip in Phoenix on Nov. 8-11.

Tony Finau shot a five-under 67 to build a three-shot lead over Patrick Reed, Tommy Fleetwood and defending champion Justin Rose in the HSBC Champions in China . ... Norman Xiong, at 19 trying to become the second-youngest winner on the PGA Tour since 1932, shot a five-under 67 to share the second-round lead with Cameron Champ at the Sanderson Farms Championsh­ip in Jackson, Miss . ... Wei-Ling Hsu rode the support of her home crowd to shoot a fiveunder 67 and take a one-stroke lead after two rounds of the LPGA Taiwan Championsh­ip.
