-

D’Mitrik Trice scored 20 points, including a crucial three-pointer with 20 seconds left, and 22nd-ranked Wisconsin held off No. 14 Iowa 72-66 on Friday night in the Big Ten opener for both teams.

Ethan Happ had 13 points, seven boards and five assists for the Badgers (7-1), who handed the resurgent Hawkeyes their first loss of the season.

With the Badgers up 6563, Trice — who led the nation at 60% on threes entering play — hit his threepointer. Jordan Bohannon answered with a quick threepointer for Iowa (6-1, 0-1), but Wisconsin was able to seal it at the line.

“To come in here and to be able to get this one in league play in November, I think it shows some signs that we’re trending in the right direction,” Wisconsin coach Greg Gard said.

Tyler Cook had 19 points and 15 rebounds for the Hawkeyes, who were only six for 24 on three-pointers.

Radford 62, at No. 17 Texas 59: Carlik Jones made a spinning layup and a free throw with 24.5 seconds left, sending the Highlanders to an upset of the Longhorns.

Devin Hutchison made one of two free throws with 11 seconds left before Texas’ Jase Febres missed a threepointer to tie and Radford rebounded to end the game.

It was the second big road win for Radford (6-1), which beat Notre Dame earlier this season and has games ahead at Maryland and Clemson.

“The stretch we have right now is suicidal,” Radford coach Mike Jones said. “At the end of the day, these games don’t matter as much as our league does .”

No. 25 Mississippi State 65, at Dayton 58: Nick Weatherspoon hit a pair of three-pointers in the closing minutes, and the Bulldogs trailed most of the game before rallying to a victory over the Flyers.

Mississippi State (6-1) salvaged its first true road game by hitting late threes after missing 15 of its first 19 tries from behind the arc. Weatherspoon’s threepointer with 27 seconds left put the Bulldogs up 61-55. He finished with 14 points.

No. 9 Michigan State 78, at Rutgers 67: Cassius Winston scored 22 points and Nick Ward had 20 points to lead the Spartans past the Scarlet Knights in the Big Ten opener.

After a back-and-forth first half, where Rutgers led much of the first 10 minutes, Winston hit a three-pointer to give Michigan State (5-2) the 39-37 lead over Rutgers (5-2) at the break.

No. 21 Buffalo 96, Milwaukee 77: Jeremy Harris scored 21 points, Nick Perkins added 20 with nine rebounds, and the Bulls (6-0) beat the Panthers in the Basketball Hall of Fame Belfast Classic in Northern Ireland.

Buffalo advanced to Saturday’s championship game in the Goliath bracket against San Francisco (7-0), a 76-58 winner over Stephen F. Austin.
