Kinsler agrees to a 2-year deal with Padres

- staff and wire reports

Ian Kinsler, who started last season with the Angels and ended it with the World Series champion Boston Red Sox, has agreed to terms with the San Diego Padres on a two-year contract, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported.

Kinsler, 36, is expected to fill a variety of roles for the Padres, with third base among the positions he’ll play in spring training.

He has played his entire career at second base, except for two innings at third base in 2012.

The Baltimore Orioles hired Brandon Hyde to be their new manager, hoping his experience as Chicago Cubs bench coach will help the team move forward while in rebuilding mode.

Hyde, 45, takes over for Buck Showalter, who was fired after Baltimore finished 47-115 — the worst record in the majors.
