The Shelby is now open on West 3rd Street with chef Sascha Lyon, the Balthazar/Pastis vet who helped open La Brea’s Commerson in 2016, in the kitchen. Salads, dry-aged steaks and oysters on the half shell with craft beer vinegar mignonette share a menu with classic and original cocktails.

A stand in Highland Park

Tacos Yuvi is a new Highland Park taco stand serving tacos, burritos, quesadilla­s and mulitas outside El Diablo Moto Shop on Wednesday through Sunday starting at 4:30 p.m. Spit-roasted al pastor and charcoal-grilled asada are on offer, plus buche,

suadero, cabeza and tripas.

Peru by way of Koreatown

Rikas Peruvian Cuisine is a new Koreatown option for ceviche, chaufa and pollo a la brasa, along with rotisserie ribs and tallarín, stir-fried noodles made with seafood, chicken and beef. Vegetarian dishes are also available, as is a lomo saltado made with chicken instead of beef.

French in Culver City

On Jan. 7, Simonette, a French all-day bistro, opened at Palihotel Culver City, a new boutique hotel from the group behind the Palihouse properties. Expect croissants with Wexler’s Deli smoked salmon in the morning, moules and steak frites at lunch, and whole trout almondine with cider, cocktails and French wine in the evening.

Alive and Kick’n

A charbroile­d chicken restaurant named Big Daddy’s Kick’n Chicken recently reopened in Inglewood after a 2005 fire at its flagship led to the closure of all four locations. After a successful April pop-up and with an ongoing GoFundMe campaign, owner Ronald McCan is resuscitat­ing the concept amid demands from fans, as reported by Eater LA.

Happy hour at Alta Adams

Alta Adams launched a happy hour this week with $8 cocktails, $7 glasses of wine and lower priced beers Mondays through Fridays, 5 to 6:30 p.m. Chef Keith Corbin is behind an accompanyi­ng menu of snacks such as Tajin-spiced nuts, oxtail tacos and a BBQ hotlink sandwich.

Closings

Sunset Junction Coffee Shop will end its six-year run in Silver Lake on Jan. 27, with a new, yet-to-be-announced business acquiring the building’s lease.

Citizen is now closed in Beverly Hills, more than two years after the restaurant took over the Spago-adjacent Canon Drive address previously occupied by Spaghettin­i & the Dave Koz Lounge.
