New shows, casino set for Vegas

- — Jay Jones

Two big tops coming to the Las Vegas Strip will be home to flashy new shows “Celestia” and “Fuerza Bruta.”

“Celestia,” tentatively set to open Feb. 27, tells stories and creates illusions with an international troupe of 32 performers, including acrobats, aerialists and dancers. It will be set in a 200,000-square-foot tent set up just north of the Stratosphere. The 90-minute show is suitable for all ages.

Performances will be at 7 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays, and 7 and 9 p.m. Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Tickets cost $29-$89.

“Fuerza Bruta,” Spanish for “brute force,” is to open March 4 in a tent that will be built at Excalibur.

The show is described as dynamic, immersive, postmodern and includes audience participation.

“Fuerza Bruta” will be staged at 7 and 9:30 p.m. Wednesdays through Sundays. General admission tickets cost $72.50.

In other Vegas developments, the 44-story Circa Resort & Casino is to open downtown in 2020. An entire city block has been razed to make way for Circa, which started work last year. When it opens in December 2020, Circa will become the first new build in downtown Vegas in 40 years.

In a separate project, Downtown Grand Hotel & Casino’s existing two towers will be joined by a third, scheduled to open in mid-2020. The new building has seven floors with 495 additional rooms.

The Downtown Grand is one block north of the Fremont Street Experience. From 1964 to 2006, it was known as the Lady Luck before reopening as the Downtown Grand in 2013.
