Shiffrin wins again, locking up slalom title

Mikaela Shiffrin wrapped up the seasonlong slalom World Cup title in Stockholm, three days after winning her record fourth straight world title in the discipline. Shiffrin won a parallel city event, defeating Christina Geiger of Germany in both runs to win the final by 0.27 seconds to give the American an insurmount­able 203-point lead in the season standings with two races remaining. It was Shiffrin’s 14th win of the season, matching the record for most World Cup victories in a single campaign.

Israel Adesanya and Kelvin Gastelum will fight for the interim middleweig­ht championsh­ip April 13 at UFC 236. The venue is to be determined.

Lightweigh­t champion Vasiliy Lomachenko (12-1, 9 KOs) will defend his two belts April 12 at Staples Center against England’s Anthony Crolla (34-6-3, 13 KOs).

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown, who has three years remaining on a $72-million contract signed in 2017, ended his standoff with the team and met with President Art Rooney II. Brown, however, who has asked to be traded, posted on social media: “We both agreed that it is time to move on.”

Carolina Hurricanes owner Tom Dundon is investing $250 million in the Alliance of American Football. Dundon also will serve as chairman of the fledgling eight-team league.
