Motorcycle rider dies in Spain event

A Spanish motorcycle rider died after crashing in qualifying for the 24 Hours of Catalunya. Race organizers said Aurelio Martinez could not overcome the injuries sustained after he was hit by another motorcycle at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in Montmelo, Spain.

Mario Kempe signed a one-year contract with the Kings. The older brother of Kings forward Adrian Kempe, Mario has spent the last two seasons as a forward with the Arizona Coyotes and has six goals and seven assists in 70 games. His two-way contract is worth $700,000 in the NHL.

Alex Iafallo of the Kings and Chase De Leo of the Ducks will enter salary arbitratio­n, according to the NHL Players’ Assn. Arbitratio­n hearings begin July 20, but restricted free agents can sign with their teams prior to that date. — Curtis Zupke

The Ducks signed left wing Andreas Martinsen to a one-year, two-way contract through the 201920 season . ... Pittsburgh Penguins coach Mike Sullivan — who guided the Penguins to championsh­ips in 2016 and 2017 — was given a fouryear contract extension that runs through the 2023-24 season.

Former Lakers coach Luke Walton filed an answer to a lawsuit alleging he sexually assaulted former Spectrum SportsNet host Kelli Tennant. According to court records, his answer denied all of Tennant’s allegation­s, including the descriptio­n of the incident and the date it occurred. Walton said Tennant was bringing forth this suit to gain money and publicity. The document describes the encounter as “completely platonic” and “did not involve any raised voices or grabbing/groping/restrainin­g of her arms hands or her person.” — Tania Ganguli

A person familiar with the situation said the Washington Wizards traded center Dwight Howard to the Memphis Grizzlies for forward CJ Miles. The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the trade hasn't been announced.
