Hall of Fame pitcher Gibson is battling pancreatic cancer
The longtime agent for Bob Gibson told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that the Hall of Fame pitcher is battling pancreatic cancer.
Dick Zitzmann said that Gibson, 83, has been hospitalized for the last two weeks in Omaha and that chemotherapy is likely to begin Monday.
Gibson pitched 17 seasons for the St. Louis Cardinals. In 1968, he set a major league record with a 1.12 ERA and had a 22-9 record. He threw 13 shutouts and gave up only two runs in a 95-inning stretch.
