No. 7 Duke avoids OT upset at North Carolina

Freshman Wendell Moore scored on a putback as time expired and No. 7 Duke completed a rally against host North Carolina for a 98-96 overtime victory Saturday night.

Moore’s follow of Tre Jones’ missed off-balance jumper ended a game in which the Blue Devils (20-3, 10-2 Atlantic Coast Conference) erased a 13-point deficit with 41⁄2 minutes to play in regulation.

Jones forced overtime by scoring at the horn after grabbing his intentiona­lly missed free throw. He finished with 28 points.

Cole Anthony scored 24 points to lead the Tar Heels (10-13, 3-9).

at No. 1 Baylor 78, Oklahoma State 70: Five players scored in double figures, led by MaCio Teague’s 24 points, and the Bears (21-1, 10-0 Big 12 Conference) won their 20th game in a row. Four Cowboys (11-12, 1-9) fouled out.

No. 2 Gonzaga 90, at St. Mary’s 60: The Bulldogs (25-1, 11-0 West Coast Conference) made 14 of their first 15 shots to send the Gaels (20-6, 7-4) to their worst home loss in 19 years. Drew Timme scored 20 points for Gonzaga and Jordan Ford had 23 for St. Mary’s.

No. 3 Kansas 60, at Texas Christian 46: Udoka Azubuike had 20 points and 15 rebounds, and the Jayhawks (20-3, 9-1 Big 12) joined North Carolina (19712001) as the only teams to win 20 games in 31 consecutiv­e seasons. It was coach Bill Self ’s 700th victory. The

Horned Frogs (13-10, 4-6) have lost five games in a row.

No. 4 San Diego State 89, at Air Force 74: KJ Feagin scored 21 points for the Aztecs (24-0, 13-0 Mountain West Conference), whose season-opening run is the nation’s best since Gonzaga began the 2016-17 season 29-0. It is also the Mountain West’s all-time best start to a season.

at No. 5 Louisville 80,

Virginia 73: After leading most of the way, the Cardinals (21-3, 12-1 ACC) had to rally when the Cavaliers (15-7, 7-5) went ahead 70-68 with 3:25 to go.

at No. 6 Dayton 71, St. Louis 65: Obi Toppin scored 17 points for the Flyers (21-2, 10-0 Atlantic 10 Conference), who have won 12 consecutiv­e games and have their highest ranking in 53 years. Jordan Goodwin had 22 points for the Billikens (17-7, 6-5).

at No. 8 Florida State 99, Miami 81: M.J. Walker and Patrick Williams each scored 14 points, helping the Seminoles (20-3, 10-2 ACC) beat the Hurricanes (11-12, 310) for the fifth time in a row. Isaiah Wong had 23 points for Miami.

at No. 11 Auburn 91, No. 18 Louisiana State 90 (OT): J’Von McCormick’s basket with 0.1 second left in overtime lifted Auburn (21-2, 8-2 Southeaste­rn Conference). Skylar Mays had a gamehigh 30 points for LSU (17-6, 8-2). McCormick had 23 points and teammate Samir Doughty had 26.

No. 12 Seton Hall 70, at No. 10 Villanova 64: Behind 19 points from Myles Powell, the Pirates (18-5, 10-1 Big East Conference) won at Villanova for the first time since 1994, a string of 17 defeats. Saddiq Bey had 22 points for the Wildcats (17-6, 7-4).

at Oklahoma 69, No. 13 West Virginia 59: Although the Sooners (15-8, 5-5 Big 12) committed 19 turnovers, they led by 18 points by the time the Mountainee­rs (18-5, 6-4) were able to tighten up on defense. Kristian Doolittle scored 27 points for Oklahoma and Jermaine Haley had 15 for West Virginia.

No. 15 Kentucky 77, at Tennessee 64: Immanuel Quickley scored 15 points in the second half and finished with 18 to help the Wildcats (18-5, 8-2 SEC) win for the sixth time in seven games. Santiago Vescovi scored 18 points for the Volunteers (1310, 5-5).

at Michigan 77, No. 16 Michigan State 68: Zavier Simpson scored 16 points and the Wolverines (14-9, 5-7 Big Ten Conference) salvaged a split of the regularsea­son series. Cassius Winston had 20 points for the Spartans (16-8, 8-5).

at No. 21 Creighton 94, St. John’s 82: The Bluejays (18-6, 7-4 Big East) shot a season-best 60% from the field and matched their season high with 13 three-point baskets but couldn’t separate from the Red Storm (1311, 2-9) until the middle of the second half.

at No. 22 Penn State 83, Minnesota 77: The Nittany Lions (18-5, 8-4 Big Ten) won their sixth game in a row and ended at five games a skid against the Gophers (12-11, 6-7).
