People familiar with the discussion told the Associated Press that putting all 30 teams in the Phoenix area and playing in empty ballparks was among the ideas discussed by Major League Baseball and the players’ association during a telephone call to talk about paths forward for a season delayed by the pandemic. Ideas are still in the early stage.

IndyCar Series owner Roger Penske canceled a doubleheader race at Detroit and adjusted the IndyCar schedule as the series remains on hold during the pandemic. To ensure a 15race schedule, IndyCar will now run doubleheaders at Iowa Speedway, Laguna Speedway and return for a second race on the road course at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in October.

The UFC said Tony Ferguson will fight Justin Gaethje for the interim lightweight title in the main event of UFC 249 on April 18. Gaethje replaces lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov, who is unable to leave Russia during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Also, Commissioner Adam Silver does not expect a decision to be made until at least May on the possible resumption of the season.
