Amazon became the latest company to announce it would be removing Washington Redskins merchandis­e for sale while the team considers a name change. CNBC reported that sellers on Amazon were given 48 hours to remove Redskins merchandis­e. Amazon joins Nike, Walmart, Target and Dick’s Sporting Goods among companies to remove Redskins merchandis­e for sale online

while the team reviews its nickname.

The San Diego Padres said newly acquired infielder Jorge Mateo’s intake test for COVID-19 came back positive and he’s experience­d symptoms. The Seattle Mariners said they had three positive tests among 122 individual­s. The Detroit Tigers acknowledg­e an undisclose­d number of players on the team have tested positive.

Jimmie Johnson, seventime NASCAR champion, twice tested negative for COVID-19 and was cleared to race at Kentucky Speedway on Sunday . ... The PGA of America said the Ryder Cup at Whistling Straits in Wisconsin was pushed back to 2021 because of the COVID-19 pandemic. That means the Presidents Cup will return to even-numbered years starting in 2022 at Quail Hollow in North Carolina.

The executive board of the NHL Players’ Assn. approved a proposed new collective bargaining agreement with the NHL and referred the tentative agreement to its full membership for a vote. Approval is expected to be announced Friday.

The deal, which would extend labor peace through the 2025-26 season and allow players to represent their homelands at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics and the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Games, also is expected to gain approval from the NHL’s board of governors.

The NHL’s Return to Play plan will have teams opening training camp Monday with games resuming Aug. 1 in two hub cities.
