PANDEMIC PRECAUTIONS

Amid a resurgence of coronavirus cases, Spain has declared a national state of emergency that includes an overnight curfew in hopes of averting a repeat of the near- collapse of the country’s hospitals. Elsewhere in Europe, efforts to combat the spread of the virus include nightly curfews in French cities and school closures in Northern Ireland and the Czech Republic. In Germany, off icials have ordered de facto lockdowns in some areas near the Austrian border, and new mask- wearing requirements are popping up, including a nationwide mandate in Russia. Governments, however, are f inding a less compliant public in the new round of restrictions.
