VACCINE SHORTAGE AS TOLL CLIMBS

-

A family member watches from a window as funeral service workers remove the body of Amelia Dias Nascimento, 94, who died from complications related to COVID-19 in her home Friday in Manaus. The Brazilian government received 2 million doses of vaccine from India on Friday, but experts warned the shipment will do little to shore up an insufficient supply in a nation of 210 million, where the pandemic death toll exceeds 215,000, second only to the U.S. Brazil’s Health Ministry announced that the vaccine, developed by AstraZeneca and the University of Oxford, landed in Sao Paulo before being flown to Rio de Janeiro, where state-run Fiocruz Institute is based. Fiocruz has an agreement to distribute the vaccine.
