Clippers’ George, Lakers’ Davis selected All-Stars

-

Clippers star Paul George was selected for the NBA’s AllStar game for the seventh time Tuesday when he was announced as one of the reserves that will play in the March 7 exhibition in Atlanta. It is George’s first selection since joining the Clippers in 2019 and will give the Clippers two players in the game, along with Kawhi Leonard, who was voted a starter last week. Anthony Davis also was selected a reserve, giving the Lakers two All-Stars as well. LeBron James is a starter and team captain.

George is off to one of his best starts, averaging 24.4 points, 6.2 rebounds and a career-high 5.5 assists. Because of injuries and being placed in the NBA’s health and safety protocols, George has missed 10 of the Clippers’ 33 games.

The New York Knicks’ Julius Randle, a former Laker, and Chicago’s Zach LaVine, a former UCLA star, were firsttime All-Stars along with Boston’s Jaylen Brown and New Orleans’ Zion Williamson. The rest of the reserves are Phoenix’s Chris Paul, Brooklyn’s James Harden, Philadelphia’s Ben Simmons, Boston’s Jayson Tatum, Orlando’s Nikola Vucevic, Utah teammates Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert, and Portland’s Damian Lillard.

The captains, James and Kevin Durant, will draft their teams from the pool of starters and reserves on March 4.

▪ And-1: Denver set an NBA record with one turnover in a 111-106 win over Portland. The guilty Nugget? Jamal Murray.
