USC advances to face Stanford in quarterfin­al

Jordyn Jenkins scored a career-high 16 points, Endyia Rogers added 15 points and a career-high 11 assists, and eighth-seeded USC defeated ninth-seeded Arizona State 71-65 in the first round of the Pac-12 tournament on Wednesday in Las Vegas.

The Trojans (11-11) earned a meeting with top-seeded and fourth-ranked Stanford in a quarterfin­al game on Thursday.

Jordan Sanders scored 14 points for USC, with the three top scorers combining to make 20 of 25 shots to help the Trojans shoot 65% (30 for 46). They were seven for 14 from three-point range.

Taya Hanson scored 15 points on five-for-14 threepoint shooting for the Sun Devils (11-10), who shot just 35% (22 for 63). Maggie Besselink added 13 points and 10 rebounds for her first career double-double.

USC scored the first nine points of the game and the first 10 of the second quarter to lead 28-7. It was 39-22 at the half, with the Trojans shooting 70% and Arizona State 29%.

Oregon State 71, California 63:

Taylor Jones had 17 points and 13 rebounds, and the Beavers moved on with an opening-round victory over the Golden Bears.

Talia von Oelhoffen had a career-high 20 points for fifthseede­d Oregon State (11-6), which has won four straight and seven of its last eight. The Beavers face fourth-seeded and 19th-ranked Oregon in the quarterfin­als Thursday.

Leilani McIntosh had 14 points to lead No. 12 seed Cal (1-16), which trailed by as many as 15 points but threatened late. Evelien Lutje Schipholt added 13 points and 10 rebounds, and Ugonne Onyiah scored 13.

Washington State 57, Utah 48: Freshman Charlisse Leger-Walker scored 15 points, Bella Murekatete added 13 points and 12 rebounds, and the seventhsee­ded Cougars beat the No. 10 seed Utes.

Washington State (12-10) will play No. 2 seed Arizona in a quarterfin­al on Thursday.

Leger-Walker was just three for 16 from the field but made seven of eight free throws. Senior Krystal LegerWalke­r added 12 points. The sisters each had eight rebounds and two three-pointers.

Brynna Maxwell scored 15 points to lead Utah (5-16).

Washington 68, Colorado 54: Tameiya Sadler and Haley Van Dyke scored 18 points apiece to lead the Huskies, who had a 3-13 Pac-12 record during the regular season.
