TRIBUTE TO OFFICER
Police officers from Maryland salute as a hearse carrying the casket of U.S. Capitol Police Officer William “Billy” Evans heads to the Capitol complex on Tuesday. President Biden and congressional leaders honored the slain officer during a memorial service in the Capitol Rotunda, where Evans was lying in honor. It was the second such memorial ceremony this year for a force that has edged close to crisis in the wake of the Jan. 6 insurrection at the Capitol. Evans, 41, was killed this month in an attack near the Senate side of the Capitol, where he and another officer were manning a barricade. The two officers were struck April 2 by a car driven by Noah Green, 25, who emerged with a knife and was shot to death by police.
