“Nomadland” looks strong for best picture. But ... (c’mon, there’s always a “but”).
» “Nomadland,” its director and adapted screenplay have triumphantly wandered through awards season. Director-producer-writer nominee Chloé Zhao is also nominated for editing, and lead actress Frances McDormand and cinematographer Joshua James Richards are strong contenders in their categories. But watch out for “Mank” and “Promising Young Woman,” which won the WGA award (for which “Nomadland” was not eligible) and has late momentum.
