Kyle Busch gets Kansas win

Kyle Busch celebrated his 36th birthday Sunday in Kansas City, Kan., by winning a two-lap sprint to the finish at Kansas Speedway, becoming the 10th different winner through the first 11 races of the NASCAR Cup Series season.

Busch had stalked Kyle Larson all day before beating him on a late restart to take the lead. Then, after another caution in the closing laps, Busch followed up his Truck Series win Saturday night with another victory.

Kevin Harvick finished second and Brad Keselowski third.

Former NASCAR driver Eric McClure died, his family said. He was 42. No details were given about his death. The Washington County (Va.) sheriff ’s office said McClure’s body was sent to Roanoke for an autopsy . ... Lewis Hamilton won the Portuguese Grand Prix in Portimao for his 97th career Formula One victory . ... Pato O’Ward prevailed in Fort Worth, Texas, for his first IndyCar win.

Fans storm field; EPL game nixed

The English Premier League was forced to abandon one of the biggest matches of the season after an invasion of Old Trafford by Manchester United fans.

The storming of the stadium — shut to fans during the pandemic — came hours before United was to host Liverpool. Fans protested on the field against United’s owners, the Glazer family.

Police clashed with supporters who are enraged by 16 years of lack of engagement by the Glazers that peaked with their decision to take United into a breakaway European Super League that collapsed two weeks ago inside 48 hours.

A win by Liverpool over United would have clinched the title for Manchester City. A revised date for the game has yet to be confirmed.

Inter Milan won its first Italian Serie A title since 2010 when second-place Atalanta drew 1-1 at Sassuolo . ... Chelsea beat Bayern Munich 4-1 and Barcelona topped Paris Saint-Germain 2-1 in the second leg of their Women’s Champions League semifinals. The teams will meet in the final May 16 in Sweden.

Caitlyn Jenner, a former Olympic champion and reality TV personalit­y now running for California governor, said she opposes transgende­r girls competing in girls’ sports at school. Jenner, a 1976 decathlon Olympic gold medalist who came out as a transgende­r woman in 2015, said it’s “a question of fairness.”

Puerto Rican boxer Felix Verdejo turned himself in on the island to face federal charges after authoritie­s identified the body of a dead woman as his 27-year-old pregnant lover, officials said. The U.S. Attorney’s Office said Verdejo is being charged with kidnapping and carjacking resulting in death and with intentiona­lly killing an unborn child.

UCLA and USC received the top two seeds, respective­ly, for the NCAA beach volleyball tournament set to start Friday in Gulf Shores, Ala. Loyola Marymount also made the eight-team field . ... The LMU men’s soccer team fell 3-1 on penalty kicks to Marquette after a 0-0 draw in the second round of the NCAA tournament in Cary, N.C.

Some nurses in Japan are incensed at a request from Tokyo Olympic organizers to have 500 of them dispatched to help out with the Games. They say they are already near the breaking point dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic.
