Rockies tap Schmidt for interim GM

-

The Colorado Rockies appointed Bill Schmidt as their interim general manager after recently parting ways with Jeff Bridich, the team announced Monday.

Schmidt has been with the Rockies for nearly 22 years and has been in his current role of vice president of scouting since Jan. 2, 2007.

Colorado plans to begin a search for a permanent GM after the postseason.

Also, the Rockies postponed their game scheduled for Monday night against visiting San Francisco because of rain. The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader Tuesday.

Robert’s injury serious

Chicago White Sox center fielder Luis Robert could miss the rest of the season after a scan showed he has a torn right hip flexor, general manager Rick Hahn said.

There will be more consultations with specialists in the next few days before the White Sox determine whether Robert, second in the American League rookie of the year voting last season, needs surgery. He was injured in Sunday’s loss to Cleveland.
