Gertrude H. Wittenberg: September 7, 1920 -July 23, 2021

Trudy (Gertrude) Wittenberg of Beverly Hills, CA, passed quietly of natural causes, surrounded by family, less than 7 weeks before her 101st birthday. She was very fortunate, enjoying quite good health and being active until this past year.

Trudy Holzman was born in Manhattan, New York, to Ben Holzman and Harriet Fuchs Holzman. They moved to California when Trudy was 14 years old. Her father Ben was a renowned and highly regarded William Morris Agent, whose career exposed Trudy to the Entertainment Industry and influenced her love of film. Or as she would say……”The Pictures”.

Married to her beloved husband Bud (Armin Wittenberg Jr.) at age 20, their marriage encompassed 67 years. Trudy’s interests and skills included being a wonderful cook hosting stylish dinner parties, to sailing to Catalina, gardening at their ranch in Carpinteria, CA, and traveling the world, including driving trips with Bud through Europe shortly after the ravages of WWII. And she enjoyed Bud’s passion with cars and classic cars. Their adventures frequently included good food, very good wine, and exploring art and culture. She enjoyed her friends, especially at Hillcrest Country Club, where she perhaps too often would outwit her friends at playing Mah Jong!

Trudy was an accomplished sculptor. In marble and alabaster, using dental tools, she created stunning works in styles from abstract, to figures and animals. Sometimes multiple animals were intertwined, such as in her dolphin series. Her sculptures are in private collections.

Amongst her generous philanthropic donations were Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles and Menninger’s Clinic in Topeka, Kansas

Family was very important to Trudy. She is survived by her son Armin Wittenberg III (Patricia), and her daughter, Wendy Friedland. Grandchildren include Christopher Eber (Elizabeth) and Jennifer Salkin (Doug), and great grandchildren include Lauren, Michelle, Alexandra, Max and Lily.

The family would like to thank caregivers Myrna, Roseanna, Merly, Krisay, Joy, Olive, Merriam, and Joe for their dedicated care of Trudy.

Family and friends will miss her upbeat personality. Services will be private. Contributions in her memory may be made to Cedars Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles (310 248-6696, or www. cedars-sinai.org) or a charity of your choice.
