Finally, a lifeline over a highway

Re “Caltrans set to break ground on wildlife bridge over freeway,” Oct. 10

More than 20 years ago, I along with other members of the Sierra Club’s wildlife and endangered species committee tried in vain to get local and state elected officials to build wildlife corridors over or under the freeways.

We were especially focused on the renovations and widening of the 405 Freeway through the Sepulveda Pass and felt that would be an ideal time to build such a bridge.

Now, more than 20 years later, we are learning that there will actually be a bridge over the 101 Freeway at Liberty Canyon in Agoura Hills to protect the wildlife with which we share our home.

In Canada, such corridors are common and have been for decades.

I am glad to know this bridge will be built in my lifetime. I am sad that it has taken so long. Francine Oschin
