- Wire reports

Texas Christian and football coach Gary Patterson mutually agreed to immediately part ways Sunday after nearly 21 seasons.

The announcement came a day after the Horned Frogs (3-5, 1-4 Big 12 Conference) lost 31-12 at Kansas State, Patterson’s alma mater. It was their fifth loss in six games.

Patterson, 61, leaves TCU with a 181-79 record, including an undefeated 13-0 season in 2010 that was capped by a Rose Bowl victory. He was the second-longest-tenured Football Bowl Subdivision coach, trailing only Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz, who is in his 23rd season.

Former Minnesota coach Jerry Kill, who was an offensive analyst, will be TCU’s interim head coach.

Michigan State moved up to No. 5 in the Associated Press college football poll, and Wake Forest, at No. 10, became a top-10 team for the first time. The first College Football Playoff selection committee rankings of the season will be released Tuesday night.

Winston was carted to the locker room with a “significant” left knee injury after Buccaneers linebacker Devin White pulled him down on a second-quarter scramble in New Orleans’ 36-27 win over Tampa Bay. White was f lagged for a horse-collar tackle. Trevor Siemian replaced Winston and led the Saints to the comeback win.

“I think it’s significant,” New Orleans coach Sean Payton said. “He felt something and is on crutches.”

Darnold suffered a concussion in Carolina’s 19-13 win at Atlanta. P.J. Walker finished the game after Darnold gained eight yards on a bootleg but took a brutal shot from Falcons linebacker Foye Oluokun.

Boswell also sustained a concussion on a fake field goal in Pittsburgh’s 15-10 victory at Cleveland. Boswell was drilled after throwing an incomplete pass.

The Buccaneers lost tight end Rob Gronkowski, who left their loss because of back spasms.

Joining other athletes who have struggled with mental health issues, Atlanta wide receiver Calvin Ridley said he’s stepping away from football after being a lastminute scratch against Carolina.
