Live-streaming session sells out 120,000 cans of Afghan pine nuts at import expo

-

A total of 120,000 cans of Afghan pine nuts were sold out via a live-streaming session on Saturday night at the 4th China International Import Expo (CIIE) in Shanghai.

The session was hosted by China Media Group (CMG), with e-commerce live streamer Li Jiaqi and CMG reporter Wang Bingbing promoting an array of products from Asian and African countries.

Products ranged from cosmetic products to food from Japan, South Korea, Thailand and South Africa, and the 120,000 cans of Afghan pine nuts which were sold out in minutes.

This hot-sale product was from 45 tons of pine nuts imported from Afghanistan which arrived in China by air early this month.

They mark the first Afghan goods exported to China since the political situation changed in the country.

"The small pine nuts, while bringing an exotic delicacy to the Chinese people, also fetch foreign exchanges for Afghanistan every year and alleviate the difficulties facing a large number of Afghan farmers as a means of living," Wang Wenbin, a spokesman of Chinese Foreign Ministry, said at a regular press briefing on Nov 2.

The CIIE is the world's first dedicated import exhibition and its 4th edition is being held in Shanghai from Nov. 5 to 10.
