Murray and Hopkins inching toward return

-

Quarterback Kyler Murray and All-Pro receiver DeAndre Hopkins were at practice for the Arizona Cardinals on Wednesday in a sign the team’s top two playmakers might be ready to return after a three-game absence.

Coach Kliff Kingsbury said Murray and Hopkins were limited during Wednesday’s workout.

“We want to make sure they feel good and ease them back into the week,” Kingsbury said.

Murray is dealing with a sprained ankle and Hopkins has a hamstring injury.

Injury updates

New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones practiced on a limited basis despite a strained neck and he hopes to play this weekend against the Dolphins in Miami.

“I think it’s just sore,” Jones said after a short workout. “Like I said, I’m feeling much better today and expect I’ll continue to feel better and better every day.”

Philadelphia quarterback Jalen Hurts had no energy for any drama regarding his playing status for Sunday when the Eagles visit the New York Jets.

“You guys know I’m dealing with something,” Hurts said about his ankle sprain. Hurts added he’s “ready to go” and said the injury won’t affect his performance.

Justin Fields returned to practice for the Chicago Bears, but Andy Dalton got the first-team snaps.

Whether the prized rookie or veteran will start at quarterback Sunday when the NFC West-leading Arizona Cardinals visit Soldier Field remains to be seen.

Rams mourn

The Rams organization and players are mourning the death of Otis Anderson Jr., a running back who played for the team during the preseason.

Anderson died Tuesday after he was shot Monday night at his home in North Jacksonville, Fla., the Orlando Sentinel reported. His father, Otis Anderson Sr., was charged with first-degree murder in Anderson’s death and with the first-degree attempted murder of his wife, Denise Anderson, the newspaper reported.
