‘POWER OF THE DOG’

BEST PICTURE

-

Our film experts have emerged from their slumbers with long-range picks for our first round of Oscar season. In Round 1, with several potential contenders yet to widely screen, the panelists mix best guesses as to what will get attention with what they think should get noticed. So far, Jane Campion’s “The Power of the Dog” is at or near the top in every eligible category. Other best picture contenders include Kenneth Branagh’s heartfelt memory play, “Belfast,” Paul Thomas Anderson’s nostalgic return to L.A., “Licorice Pizza,” and Japan’s “Drive My Car,” bidding for 2022 to be the fourth straight year with a non-English-language best picture nominee.

You can find all our picks in 10 Oscar categories at latimes.com/buzzmeter, where you can also vote for your own slate in our weekly polls.
