When spring and summer roll around, many homeowners decide it’s time to tackle painting a room, but there’s a better season to do it – winter.
While exterior house painting is traditionally done in the warmer months, you don’t have to wait to give your bedroom or kitchen a fresh coat of color: here’s why.
Paint dries faster in the winter since there’s less humidity in the air.
Spring can bring humidity, and if it’s too high, paint can dry improperly, according to the experts at Benjamin Moore. By contrast, in winter months, the paint dries more quickly and better, and there’s less chance that it will crack and peel off since there’s no excessive moisture.
You may get your preferred start date if hiring a pro. Booking a contractor in a less-popular month like January or February could be a boon for both your schedule and wallet. During slow months, when professional painters aren’t climbing ladders outside to work on exterior jobs, they likely have more availability to start your job sooner rather than later. As an incentive to get more work during the cold months, some painters offer lower rates, too.
You make the most of your time indoors.
If staying indoors where it’s warm and cozy sounds very appealing, why not put some of that time to good use and paint one or several rooms in need of some TLC? You may be able to get the job done in a weekend.
It’s one less home project to tackle in the summer. Painting in the winter means less time doing chores and more time enjoying yourself at the beach or in your backyard hammock!
One note: you want to keep the windows open for ventilation, but with all that warm air escaping, you may need to raise the thermostat. Doing so likely means a bigger heating bill. Also, turn on fans and dehumidifiers and keep all interior doors open to ventilate the house and keep everyone safe.
