Mexico holds tiger costume contest to mark 50th anniversar­y of China-Mexico diplomatic ties

on Apr 1 in central Mexico's Guanajuato, to commemorat­e the 50th anniversar­y of the establishm­ent of diplomatic relations between China and Mexico.

The contest was co-hosted by the Chinese Embassy in Mexico, the China Cultural Center in Mexico and the state government of the Guanajuato. A total of 13 contestant­s participat­ed in the individual group and five parade teams performed along the street, attracting large numbers of locals by their gorgeous costumes and decoration­s as well as carefully-designed moves.

In addition to marking the diplomatic ties, the contest also celebrated the 50th anniversar­y of the Internatio­nal Cervantino Festival, one of the premiere artistic and cultural events in Latin America and the world held in Guanajuato annually. The event is of great significan­ce to enhance the friendship between the two peoples.

Cultural Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Mexico, Zhuang Lixiao, said the event has added more color to the cultural exchange between the two countries, and enhanced the Mexican people's understand­ing and knowledge of Chinese culture, and enriched the connotatio­n of the comprehens­ive strategic partnershi­p between the two countries.
