Mets decide to cut slumping Cano, 39

The first-place New York Mets cut Robinson Cano on Monday with nearly $45 million left on his contract, possibly signaling the end of his major league career. The slugger wants to keep playing but will have to catch on elsewhere.

A slumping Cano, 39, was designated for assignment as teams were required to trim their active rosters from 28 players to 26.

Minnesota put slugger Miguel Sano (knee sprain) on the 10-day injured list and called up infielder Jose Miranda . ... Milwaukee designated right-hander Jose Urena for assignment and activated infielder Luis Urias (quadriceps).
