UCLA is ousted in baseball
Sonny DiChiara went three for four with four RBIs, Nate LaRue added three RBIs, and Auburn beat UCLA 11-4 on Monday to win the Auburn (Ala.) Regional in the NCAA baseball tournament.
Auburn (40-19) advances to the super regionals.
The game was suspended Sunday night because of lightning. Auburn was leading 9-0 in the bottom of the sixth inning. In Monday’s resumed portion, UCLA (40-24) scored four unanswered runs, but Auburn added two runs in the top of the ninth.
Mason Barnett (3-2) gave up one hit in 51⁄3 scoreless innings and struck out 10 for Auburn. UCLA starter James Hepp (1-2) took the loss. Jack Holman homered for the Bruins.
The eight NCAA baseball super regional matchups were set after Auburn, Stanford, Arkansas, Connecticut, Mississippi, Oklahoma, North Carolina, Oregon State, Southern Mississippi, East Carolina and Louisville wrapped up regional titles. The best-of-three super regionals begin Friday and Saturday and will determine the College World Series field in Omaha.
The matchups: Notre Dame at No. 1 national seed Tennessee, Connecticut at No. 2 Stanford, No. 14 Auburn at No. 3 Oregon State, Oklahoma at No. 4 Virginia Tech, No. 12 Louisville at No. 5 Texas A&M, Texas at No. 8 East Carolina, Arkansas at No. 10 North Carolina, and Mississippi at No. 11 Southern Mississippi.
