UCLA is ousted in baseball

Sonny DiChiara went three for four with four RBIs, Nate LaRue added three RBIs, and Auburn beat UCLA 11-4 on Monday to win the Auburn (Ala.) Regional in the NCAA baseball tournament.

Auburn (40-19) advances to the super regionals.

The game was suspended Sunday night because of lightning. Auburn was leading 9-0 in the bottom of the sixth inning. In Monday’s resumed portion, UCLA (40-24) scored four unanswered runs, but Auburn added two runs in the top of the ninth.

Mason Barnett (3-2) gave up one hit in 51⁄3 scoreless innings and struck out 10 for Auburn. UCLA starter James Hepp (1-2) took the loss. Jack Holman homered for the Bruins.

The eight NCAA baseball super regional matchups were set after Auburn, Stanford, Arkansas, Connecticu­t, Mississipp­i, Oklahoma, North Carolina, Oregon State, Southern Mississipp­i, East Carolina and Louisville wrapped up regional titles. The best-of-three super regionals begin Friday and Saturday and will determine the College World Series field in Omaha.

The matchups: Notre Dame at No. 1 national seed Tennessee, Connecticu­t at No. 2 Stanford, No. 14 Auburn at No. 3 Oregon State, Oklahoma at No. 4 Virginia Tech, No. 12 Louisville at No. 5 Texas A&M, Texas at No. 8 East Carolina, Arkansas at No. 10 North Carolina, and Mississipp­i at No. 11 Southern Mississipp­i.
