MURANAGA, Yoshiko “Yo”

Yoshiko “Yo” Muranaga of the Sun City Summerlin community in Las Vegas, NV, passed away in February 2022, at the age of 94. She was born in Terminal Island, grew up in Los Angeles and Culver City—all in California. She and her late husband, Kenichi “Ken” Muranaga moved to Las Vegas in 1992 to enjoy their retirement years.

She graduated from Amache High School while interned at the Granada War Relocation Center in Colorado, which the internees called “Camp Amache”. She worked as an accounting specialist for Prudential Insurance for more than 25 years.

In her retirement while still in California, she volunteere­d at MLK, Jr. Hospital and Meals on Wheels. In Las Vegas, she was active in the Sun City Dance Company. She also had weekly Mah Jongg sessions with her dear friends. Mom was a creative person who enjoyed cross stitch, embroidery, knitting, crocheting, card making, sewing and so many other crafting activities. Her home, family, and friends were graced with her creations.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Kenichi “Ken” Muranaga; her parents, Soheil and Chiyoko; her brother, Frank (Ethel); and her sister, Grace (Tom).

She is survived by her only son, Mark (Leticia “Leti”), four grandchild­ren, four great grandchild­ren, five sistersin-law, numerous nieces and nephews, and many, many dear friends.

Mark and Leti extend their deepest gratitude to Mirium, mom’s care giver, the staff at Atria Seville Assisted Living at Summerlin, NV, and the staff at Alta Hospice and Palliative Care of Las Vegas, NV, for the care and compassion they showed Mom in her final days.

Mark and Leti are honoring Mom’s request for no funeral or memorial. “Too much fuss,” she often said. However, a luncheon will be arranged for a future date as well as her interment. Per her wishes, she will be laid to rest alongside her husband of more than sixty years.
