Re “Carne asada is not a crime,” column, July 18

I appreciate Gustavo Arellano’s tendency to support the underdog. But the title of his July 18 column misses an important point. When one takes the view of the animals turned into strips of marinated flesh for human consumptio­n, a crime has indeed been committed.

Of course, we are not forced to empathize with animals who are treated like things. But to do so expands our hearts. Gracia Fay Ellwood
