Re “This time feels different,” letters, July 22

A letter writer said she would be willing to submit to a new mask mandate if she knew more about how COVID-19 hospitalization and death rates compare for individuals who have been vaccinated and boosted as opposed to individuals who are not vaccinated and boosted.

On the website covid19.ca.gov, much of this information is available.

The latest data for this type of comparison is from June 27 to July 3. Unvaccinated people were 5.9 times more likely to get COVID-19 than vaccinated people who had received their booster. Unvaccinated people were 7.1 times more likely to be hospitalized with COVID-19 and were 9.9 times more likely to die from COVID-19 than people who were vaccinated and boosted.

The site has detailed explanations about these statistics, as well as more information about the spread of COVID-19.
