Jets’ Wilson gets good news following surgery on knee

Zach Wilson and the New York Jets received some good news after a few days of worrying about the quarterbac­k’s right knee.

Wilson had arthroscop­ic surgery Tuesday to repair a torn meniscus and remains on track to return in a few weeks, a person with knowledge told the Associated Press.

Wilson flew to Los Angeles to have the procedure performed by Dr. Neal ElAttrache, who trimmed the meniscus and found no further damage in the knee, said the person who spoke to the AP on the condition of anonymity because the team didn’t announce results of the surgery. That timeline means the Jets could still have their starting quarterbac­k for Week 1.

Meanwhile, Jets starting right tackle Mekhi Becton was put on season-ending injured reserve because of a chip fracture in his right kneecap suffered during practice Aug. 8.

Cleveland Browns starting center Nick Harris will miss the season after being put on injured reserve along with one of his backups, rookie Dawson Deaton, who got hurt during practice. Harris suffered a serious right knee injury on the second play of last week’s exhibition opener at Jacksonvil­le. Deaton tore his anterior cruciate ligament early in Monday’s practice . ... Center Bradley Bozeman left the Carolina Panthers’ joint practice session with the New England Patriots on a cart after suffering an apparent leg injury . ... Seattle Seahawks quarterbac­k Drew Lock tested positive for COVID-19 and will miss the team’s preseason game against Chicago. by the league and the National Basketball Players Assn. Harris was dismissed from the league July 1, 2021, for testing positive for a prohibited substance under the NBA/NBPA Anti-Drug Program . ... Chicago Bulls rookie Justin Lewis needs surgery to repair an injury to the ACL in his right knee and is out indefinite­ly.

The PGA Tour is in Wilmington, Del., for the first time and so is Tiger Woods, who isn’t playing. Woods was there for a private meeting of top players to discuss the threat of Saudi-funded LIV Golf, according to two people aware of the plans at the BMW Championsh­ip.

a 12year-old Little League World Series pitcher and outfielder for the Snow Canyon team out of Santa Clara, Utah, was in critical condition with what his family said was a head injury suffered when he fell off the top bunk of his bed at the dormitory complex in Williamspo­rt, Pa. The LLWS is set to begin Wednesday. The player’s dad, Jace Oliverson, is an assistant coach on the team.

The Galaxy reached an agreement with Herbalife Nutrition on a multimilli­ondollar, multiyear sponsorshi­p renewal that will keep the dietary supplement company on the front of the team’s jersey. According to the Sports Business Journal, the five-year extension is worth more than $7 million a season, up from the $4.4-million annual value of the 10year deal that expires this season.
