Bakhtiari makes progress with knee

-

Green Bay Packers offensive tackle David Bakhtiari moved a step closer to returning from the knee injury that caused him to play only one game last season.

Bakhtiari participated in individual drills at Sunday’s practice after getting removed from the physically unable to perform list.

“We’ll see how I respond tomorrow, but as of right now, it’s a good checkmark on the day,” said Bakhtiari, a first-team All-Pro selection in 2018 and 2020. “I felt good. I was happy where I was at.”

Packers coach Matt LaFleur cautioned it’s just the next step in Bakhtiari’s recovery, and that the team doesn’t have clarity on when the star left tackle could be playing again.

Bakhtiari tore his left anterior cruciate ligament on Dec. 31, 2020, missing the rest of that season and most of last year.

Thibodeaux injures knee in Giants’ win

Linebacker Kayvon Thibodeaux, the No. 5 overall choice in the draft, left the New York Giants’ 25-22 preseason victory over the Cincinnati Bengals in the second quarter and was ruled out with a knee injury.

The Giants also lost kicker Graham Gano to a concussion, while returnerreceiver C.J. Board was sidelined with a rib injury and sixth-round draft pick Darrian Beavers left with a knee injury.

Thibodeaux, who starred at Westlake Village Oaks Christian High, was hurt when he was hit on the right knee on a cut block by Bengals tight end Thaddeus Moss. Thibodeaux lay on the ground holding his knee as trainers ran to him and was taken to the locker room.

Lock back on field

Drew Lock returned to practice for the Seattle Seahawks after testing positive for COVID-19 this past week and missing the team’s second preseason game.

Seattle coach Pete Carroll said Lock reacted well to being back out on the field and had a normal amount of work. Carroll remained noncommittal to what that means for Seattle’s preseason finale Friday at Dallas and whether Lock would get a chance to be the starter. “The plan has been adjusted. I’ll talk to you more about it later in the week,” Carroll said.
