Harold “Hal” Frank

1933 - 2022

-

Harold “Hal” Frank was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and son. Hal and his beloved wife Joyce were happily married for 67 wonderful years. His humble beginnings contributed to both his humility and drive as he quietly became a very successful entrepreneur and a mentor to so many who knew him.

He was also a philanthropist who generously supported a range of religious, political and medical causes--he was one of the founding supporters of the “Stop Cancer” charity. He blessed all of those around him in innumerable, meaningful ways.

Hal attended Roosevelt High and served his country in the Coast Guard, prior to launching a career in the import/export business, which afforded him the opportunity to travel and become a citizen of the world.

Together, he and Joyce spent their lives exploring and learning various cultures, engaging with people and weaving a network of friends around the world. Hal loved to travel, delighting in new adventures with an ever-present, true passion for life.

Hal was strong, self-assured and charismatic; he effortlessly owned every room he was in, without fanfare, and his graceful presence was always felt. He poured his heart and soul--working tirelessly and tenaciously his entire life--into building a successful, thriving business in order to provide for his family. Nothing was more important to him than creating a great life for his children, and subsequently his grandchildren.

Hal, together with Joyce, loved spending quality time with their family. Whether at their home in Westwood, Rancho Mirage, or as part of their travels around the world, they also had a vibrant social life with a large network of friends.

Wisdom, gained over a lifetime from a man who was truly self-made, was a defining characteristic of Hal’s. In business, Hal was renowned for his creativity, tenacity, and conviction. Within his family, Hal was beloved for his clever sense of humor, strong values, and inimitable warmth.

The world lost a giant this week, Hal was universally adored by anyone who met him--he will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him, and most profoundly by family and friends.

Hal is survived by his wife Joyce, his children: Ron, Deanna and Jonathan; his son-in-law Brian Weinhart and daughter-in-law Gabi Frank; and his grandchildren: Austen, Jade (and her husband Dan Jaugey), Chasen, Julian, Jake, August, and Jonah. He will remain in their hearts forever, honoring his legacy.

The memorial service will be held at 2pm on Sunday, September 11th at Hillside Memorial Park (6001 W. Centinela Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90045).
