Andrews out for Ravens

- Wire reports

The Baltimore Ravens won’t have tight end Mark Andrews when they face the New Orleans Saints on Monday night, with the team downgrading him Sunday to out. He was previously dealing with a knee injury then hurt his shoulder last Thursday during Baltimore’s 27-22 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Andrews, who will not make the trip to New Orleans, leads the Ravens in receptions (42), yards receiving (488) and touchdown receptions (five). Andrews will have ample rest to recover thanks to the Ravens having an open date in Week 9, giving him 24 days between games if he plays in Week 11 against the Carolina Panthers.

This will be the first game the All-Pro will sit out because of injury in his four-plus years in Baltimore. Andrews sat out two weeks in 2020 while on the reserve/COVID-19 list.

Bills’ Allen banged up

Bills quarterback Josh Allen was seen flexing his right hand after he had the ball knocked out of it on a strip-sack by New York Jets defensive end Bryce Huff during the final possession of Buffalo’s 20-17 loss to New York on Sunday.

Allen stayed in and bounced an incompletion to Stefon Diggs, then had his desperation heave for Gabe Davis knocked away by Sauce Gardner to seal the Jets’ victory.

“There’s some slight pain,” said Allen, who was sacked five times in the loss. “I’ll get through it.”

Bills coach Sean McDermott said he hadn’t yet spoken to the team’s training staff about Allen’s potential injury.

“I am aware of it,” McDermott said. “As far as I know, he’s still being evaluated.”

Strange play in Vikings’ win

Washington Commanders quarterback Taylor Heinicke lofted the ball into triple coverage like it was a Hail Mary throw.

On the sideline, Commanders coach Ron Rivera thought to himself, “Are you kidding me?”

That was just the beginning of one of the most bizarre plays of the season. What should have been an easy interception turned into a catch by Curtis Samuel for a 49-yard Washington Commanders touchdown when an official ran into Minnesota Vikings defender Camryn Bynum during the Vikings’ 20-17 win.

“I saw a punt return interception coming,” Bynum said. “I almost had to fair catch it because it was in the air that long.”

Problem is, back judge Steve Patrick stumbled and effectively set a pick for Samuel.

“He ran right into you!” cornerback Patrick Peterson said to Bynum afterward. “We just had a little bump in the road — a speed bump.”
