GOLDBLUM, Claire
February 17, 1935 - November 6, 2022
Clarice Rachelle Tucker Goldblum, wife, mother, grandmother, teacher, sister, aunt, cousin and friend to so, so many died Sunday, November 6th at the age of 87. Her radiant heart, generous spirit and sharp mind touched and inspired generations. Claire lived through 10 presidents (FDR was her favorite) and was a deeply aware witness to wars, civil rights movements and the country’s ongoing political evolution. She spent 40+ years teaching History at John Marshall High School, where she coached and cheered Mock Trial, Academic Decathlons, football games, and theatrical productions. Her students from the 1960s-2000s have given her an abundance of nachas over the years. She enthusiastically corresponded and visited with many of them and attended countless reunions. Married to the love of her life for 63 years, Claire lost her beloved Shep in Jan 2021. Their relationship was the gold standard: an A+ marriage anchored in respect and deep love for each other. They were a perfect match, and spent their life together traveling, reading, entertaining, obsessing over politics and enjoying laughs and gourmet meals. They adored each other beyond the beyond. Claire was the youngest child born to Louis and Rita Tucker in Philadelphia, PA in 1935 and moved with her family to Los Angeles in 1946. After studying at Cal Berkeley, Claire completed her degree at Cal State LA, where she met her dashing Sheppy. They married in Paris in 1958 and never lost their affection for French culture. She was a life-long teacher, mentor, Dodger fan, tennis junkie, proud democrat, Scrabble-player extraordinaire -- and made the best chocolate chip cookies west of the Mississippi. Claire was pure love and a force of nature who left this world on her own terms, as one would expect from this spectacular soul. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of her family, son David (Lesley Rigg) and daughter Nancy (Josh Geller) and her bright and beautiful grandchildren, Rachel, Aaron and Leo. Claire is also survived by her older brother, Dr. Eugene Tucker (Patty). Plans for a memorial service are pending. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Planned Parenthood in her honor.
