When Padilla admitted erring

Re “With Padilla’s win, ‘we have a voice,’ ” Nov. 11

In 2003, the L.A. City Council adopted a resolution opposing the U.S. invasion of Iraq. Four members voted against this resolution, including Alex Padilla.

Later that year, I confronted Padilla about his vote at a neighborhood meeting in Sylmar. He admitted to me that he made a mistake.

The measure of a person is one’s ability to admit mistakes and to attempt to ameliorate them. Padilla, now a Democratic senator from California, passed this test with flying colors.
