The future coach of the Showtime Lakers began his playing career with the San Diego Rockets before landing with L.A. in 1970. He became part of the “Pine Brothers” backing up superstar teammates, winning a title in 1972 when the Lakers won a record 33 consecutive games as well. In parts of six seasons with L.A., the athletic, 6-3 guard averaged 7.8 points, shooting 42.8% from the field.
